Class A Montana High School Mascots Ranked

A month ago I ranked the Class AA Montana high schools by mascots. Now, we're onto Class A.

I'll use the same criteria while ranking Class A

I appreciate names that are unique or have meaning to the high school or area around. The generic names (which, there are quite a bit of generic team names in Montana high school sports) will typically place in the bottom half of the list.

Here are the Class A rankings from worst to first.

24. Columbia Falls Wildcats

Wildcats is as boring as it gets. Sorry, C-Falls.

23. Sidney Eagles

Sidney and the next two entries are all interchangeable.

22. Whitefish Bulldogs

Every state has a Bulldogs mascot.

21. Hardin Bulldogs

Every state has a second Bulldogs mascot.

20. Billings Central Catholic Rams

Sure, Rams are fine.

19. Lockwood Lions

Rawr.

18. Fergus Golden Eagles

At least they spruce it up with a color.

17. Custer County Cowboys/Cowgirls

Pew pew.

16. Polson Pirates

Good alliteration. Maybe there are some pirates on the high seas (Flathead Lake).

15. Ronan Chiefs

As a white guy, I'm not going to dive into anything other than "I like the name Chiefs."

14. Park Rangers

Rangers is alright, but using "Rangers" along with Park High School is genius.

13. Hamilton Broncs

Broncs is relatively popular in Montana, but by dropping the 'O' it makes it a hip, cool mascot.

12. Frenchtown Broncs

Per my last email.

11. Havre Blue Ponies

Does Blue Ponies strike fear into the opponent? No, not really, but I like the uniqueness and Havre saying "We're ponies, what of it?"

10. Butte Central Maroons

Can someone tell me what Maroons are? Is it just the color? Is it slaves that escaped their captivity? Calling yourselves "Maroons" cracks me up without knowing the background.

9. Browning Indians

I like the native american community rocking the "Indians" moniker. Unless they don't like it then I will shut up as a white guy (again).

8. Stevensville Yellowjackets

A swarm of Yellowjackets is badass.

7. Corvallis Blue Devils

You don't see many "Devils" mascots, especially at the High School level. The Catholic schools in the States can't stand it (I'm guessing). The only thing worse than a Blue Devil is...

6. Dawson Red Devils

Red is the OG devil color. Truly evil, getting a slight boost over the Blue Devils.

5. Beaverhead County Beavers

You don't hear a lot of "Beavers" mascots but I love that Beaverhead County went all in and said, "Screw it, let's call ourselves the Beaverhead Beavers."

4. Bigfork Vikings/Valkyries

A fun mascot. Especially the girls' "Valkyries." You don't hear many Valkyries.

3. East Helena Vigilantes

Badass. I love being the Vigilantes if I'm a high school student.

2. Laurel Locomotives

Great alliteration, a unique name and some ties to Montana (or anywhere in the U.S.).

1. Libby Loggers

I love this one. The tie to the logging industry in NW Montana is fantastic and you've probably picked up on my love for alliteration.
