“Magic Rainbow”: Hauck’s Blunt Take on NIL and Transfer Agents
College football is in a tizzy right now. NIL this, the transfer portal that, and now private equity. It’s hard to track, and personally, hard to enjoy.
Once we get to the field on Saturday afternoon, all of that goes away, but the offseason is a really tough stretch to care about college football.
If you want to keep up with all of the hoopla, check out our transfer portal tracker below.

As frustrating as it is for fans, think of the college football coaches who have to man the transfer portal turnstile. I don't even think your favorite coaches know who is on their team in January.
The 2026 AFCA Convention happened from January 11 to January 13, and Montana Grizzly Head Coach Bobby Hauck spoke at the Convention about the transfer portal and NIL agents.
"We've got walk-on players that I have a hard time remembering their names. They've got agents," said Coach Hauck.
"All these guys are promised, all of our guys on all of our teams, that they can get on the magic transfer portal rainbow and slide down it into a pot of gold. That's the vision that our players have.
Hauck's speech got some people riled up because they think it's disrespectful that Hauck doesn't know his walk-on players' names. Take it easy, people. The point he's making is that it's wild that walk-ons have agents.
Prairie View A&M Head Coach Tremaine Jackson chimed in on the worst family member to deal with as an agent.
"The uncle to the single mom is my worst nightmare," said Jackson.
