Hold on to your pumpkin spice lattes tight, Montana. Our own Field of Screams in Victor just won the Legacy Haunt Award from the Haunted Attraction Association! Yes, our beloved scare cornfield has the title of LEGENDARY haunts.

For over 20 years, Field of Screams has been providing thrill-seekers with terrifying, blood-pressure-raising fun from across Western Montana and the Bitterroot Valley. But it didn’t start as a full-on horror fest. In 2000, Sandy and Quinn Kirkland had settled on a project to fill the empty space behind their house: a simple corn maze. But then nature meddled in plans. So it was with a punishing fire season adding another layer of eeriness, and also visitors requesting more … frights. And, well, be careful what you wish for.

Now, fast forward 25 years, and Field of Screams is a Halloween behemoth. What started as four basic scare actors has now evolved into a giant haunted experience, containing over 50 actors. Think you can still walk on through without screeching? Good luck with that.

But it’s not all jump scares and chainsaw-wielding nightmares (though there is plenty of that). The Kirklands know that not everyone loves terror at full throttle. That’s what they call “Zombie-Free Mondays,” when you can take a stroll around the haunted grounds with actors no longer jumping out at you. The only way to traverse that atmosphere without a change of pants.

So, please give it up for the Kirkland family! They’ve turned a simple concept into one of the best haunted attractions in the country. We already knew Field of Screams is not only a Montana tradition but a must-see Halloween attraction.
