Western Montana Ranch With Ski Slopes For Sale
Ever wish you owned a ski resort in western Montana? Good news, you can. Just bring $24 million, a solid attorney, and maybe don’t repeat the sins of the last guy.
Lolo Ranch, a sprawling property south of Lolo Peak, just hit the market with 437 acres of mountain views, luxury lodge vibes, and actual private ski runs. Yep, your own chairlift-less, snowcat-style operation. But here’s the kicker: those ski runs were allegedly cut right into National Forest Service land, without asking Uncle Sam first.
Now, we Montanans love our rugged independence. But bulldozing ski runs on federal land without permission? That’s just... not smart.
What followed was a long, drawn-out legal slugfest with the Forest Service, filled with complaints about locked gates, snowmaking machines, and access rights. Eventually, it all snowballed (tee hee), pun fully intended, into bankruptcy.
The result? A fire sale for millionaires. The listing includes just about everything: a 7-bedroom timber lodge, guest cabins, a heated workshop, greenhouse, trout pond, and 10 miles of trails. There’s even a wine cellar, in case you need to chill after your next zoning meeting.
To be fair, the place is still gorgeous. The wildlife roam the ski slopes like they own them, and the Bitterroot backdrop looks like a movie set.
If your bank account can survive re-entry, and your lawyers are squeaky clean, it might be your dream playground. A private ski hill to call your home.
Just maybe call the Forest Service first before taking the dozer for a spin to Lolo Peak.
