What's in a bill? Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta has been involved in a Twitter exchange over the last few days after taking exception to Chvrches placement on the Dia De Los Deftones bill, serving as primary support over Gojira who are also on the bill.

Jasta started things off, tweeting shortly after yesterday's Dia De Los Deftones festival announcement, "Who is churches with a v and why the fuck are they playing over Gojira get tha fuuuuuck outtta here have you ever heard The Heaviest Matter In The Universe you’re gonna get embarrassed off the stage lol no offense. God the music industry suckkkkks sometimes."

He then added, "Update: googled Churches w/ a v, they gotta be huge they did a song with a guy w/ a Marshmallow mask and people LOOOOOVE IT. Good for them."

The Word Alive's Telle Smith chimed in on the thread, adding, "I love both bands and Deftones are my favorite band, I think it’s dope and speaks volumes to be open to breaking down genre specific festivals in hopes of broadening people’s horizons. If a chvrches fan falls in love with Gojira, fuck yea," to which Jasta replied, "That’s the spirit! Was hoping it was some new hot one man black metal thing haha they like to make the u into a v too!"

Chvrches' Lauren Mayberry then got involved in the conversation, responding to the initial Jasta tweet, stating, "Deftones curated the lineup so I don’t know how that speaks to problems with The Music Industry. I think it’s important and powerful that they promote the idea of a diverse community and try to bridge gaps instead of being guided by limiting, antiquated ideas about genre."

She then added, "I saw Gojira in Glasgow years ago and have seen Deftones three times so was excited when we got asked to be on the bill. Just because someone plays or listens to 'pop music' doesn’t mean they don’t understand or appreciate other things."

Jasta continued to add to his thoughts on the matter, "I’m sure they’re lovely people and a popular group, I don’t agree with the line up order, same w/ other festivals, if anyone is butt hurt about my opinion wait til you hear the podcast! Metal needs to be shown more respect. Longer career, legacy, more albums, bill em higher."

He also spoke of being involved in eclectic bills in the past that didn't make much sense in the placement, but went on to add, "Don’t get it twisted I’m all for diverse line ups but make the order right. Just supported Evanescance, Godsmack, KSE & Steel Panther 2 days ago."

Jasta continued, "Props to Chvrches booking agent though, that’s a gangster power move haha," before later responding to a commenter, "Haha some folks don’t like facts &/or they twist what I say, whatever. Diverse lineups are great but whoever u are, if your agent power moves u above a crusher, good luck! I remember (band I wont name) somehow got to play after FFDP in AZ, it was a BAD lol. Hasn’t happened since."

The second annual Dia De Los Deftones festival will take place Nov. 2 at San Diego's Petco Park. In addition to the hosting headliners, the bill includes the aforementioned Chvrches, Gojira, JPEGMAFIA, Hum, Youth Code and Brutus. Tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster this Friday (Aug. 2) at 10AM PT.
