Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula recently received an ‘A’ safety rating from the Leapfrog Group, St. Patrick Hospital Quality Improvement Manager Pam Estill explains.

"Leapfrog is a nonprofit organization that monitors safety scores for hospitals throughout the nation" Estill said. "We were one of two hospitals in the State of Montana to get an 'A' grade and one of just about 800 across the nation... so it's a pretty big deal."

The other hospital to receive an ‘A’ safety rating was St. Peter’s hospital in Helena. Estill says the staff at St. Patrick went through top to bottom training to make safety a priority.

"The entire organization went through training for high-reliability organizations," Estill said. "That includes physicians, nurses, the environmental cleaning crew... everyone went through this training. From all aspects of patient care, we can make sure that we are providing safe care."

Only one Montana facility received a “D” rating and that was Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital, it should be noted that for all of the hospitals that received less than an ‘A’ rating, the Leapfrog Group indicates the hospitals “Declined to Report.”
