After tossing around the idea in 2014 and revealing it to the public last year, the new band Dreamcar have delivered their first taste of new music. The band consists of three quarters of No Doubt -- Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young -- with AFI's Davey Havok providing the vocals, but it is in no way meant to be a No Doubt reboot minus Gwen Stefani. The band just released their new single "Kill for Candy" that you can hear in the player above.

Right off the bat, fans will pick up on a '80s "new romantic" era sound that permeates its way through the song. As expected, Havok's vocals are recognizable, giving the track a bit of a darker tone. "There's an honesty in all of my lyrics," Havok states. "This one speaks to a perhaps dangerous and unhealthy desire for the sweet." If you like the song, you can pick it up here.

"It's almost like pressing the reset button and going back to the garage," says Tony Kanal of the new band to Rolling Stone. "It's like a rebirth, a really beautiful, pure and positive thing." The bassist reveals in the interview that the band members had been kicking around the idea of a new project and courted Havok after Blaqk Audio opened for No Doubt a few years back. Pulling in Sugarcult's Tim Pagnotta to produce, the band started to hone in on their sound. "There are a lot of things on the album that are Eighties-influenced," says Kanal, "But I feel like what we've created is something very fresh and new, too. You have to find that balance, and I think we've achieved that."

"Kill for Candy" is featured on Dreamcar's upcoming self-titled album, which is expected May 12 via Columbia Records. The group is just starting to map out their promotion of the disc, with a number of West Coast performances, including appearances at both weekends of Coachella, on the books.
