Tuesday, Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte is bringing the U.S. House Subcommittee on the Interior, Energy and the Environment to Hamilton, Montana, for a Field Briefing on "Wildfire Management and Response: Challenges and Opportunities." Gianforte is chairman of the subcommittee, which is under the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. They will hear from three witnesses:

  • Jeff Burrows, Chairman of the Ravalli County Commissioners
  • Shawna Legarza, Director of U.S. Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management
  • Richard Stem, Management Consultant.
  • The briefing is scheduled Tuesday, August 7, at 10 a.m. at the Ravalli County Administrative Center in the Commissioners' Meeting Room at 215 South 4th in Hamilton and is open to the public. The Bitterroot Valley has been the scene of major forest fires in the recent past, including the 2016 Roaring Lion Fire southwest of Hamilton.
