Chris Cornell Hotel Room Photos Released by Detroit Police Department
The Detroit Police Department has released photos taken from inside Chris Cornell's hotel room following the discovery of the Soundgarden singer's body on May 18, 2017.
NOTE: While the above photos do not show Cornell's body, they could be disturbing to viewers.
Cornell died by suicide following his band's show the previous night at the city's Fox Theatre. A toxicology report obtained by TMZ showed the singer had Naloxone (Narcan), Butalbital (a sedative), Lorazepam (Ativan), Pseudoephedrine (a decongestant) and barbiturates in his system at the time of death.
Ativan is an anxiety-relieving medication that Cornell was known to be using. Based on the report, he had taken four of the pills, higher than his usual dosage. The Narcan was administered by the responding EMTs after they discovered Cornell, in an effort to reverse the effects of a potential overdose.
According to a newly detailed report on the events surrounding the singer's death -- which you can read in full from the Detroit News -- Cornell's wife Vicky grew concerned by what she heard when she spoke to her husband at 11:35PM. In previous reports, she had said that he was "slurring his words" and had confessed to taking "an extra Ativan or two."
She asked his bodyguard, Martin Kirsten, to make sure Cornell was okay. When the singer didn't answer, and hotel security allegedly wouldn't allow Kirsten access to the room, he kicked in the door.
"I told them that I’m going to damage the hotel room and [they] need to send security, call 911 and call an ambulance. I kicked the bedroom door 6-7 times before it somehow popped open,” Kirsten told the detective. “I went inside, and the bathroom door was partially opened and I could see his feet."
“Many of us who know Chris well noticed that he wasn’t himself during his final hours and that something was very off,” Vicky told TMZ. “We have learned from this report that several substances were found in his system. After so many years of sobriety, this moment of terrible judgement seems to have completely impaired and altered his state of mind.”
