The new Bitterroot National Forest Supervisor is Matt Anderson, who will take over the post March 18th. Anderson comes to the Bitterroot from Alaska, where he was District Ranger of the Craig and Thorne Bay Districts on Prince of Wales Island. Northern Region Forester Leanne Marten said, "Matt brings with him a wealth of natural resource experience and a strong desire to work collaboratively with community members, local and state governments..." Anderson takes over for Acting Forest Supervisor Kurt Steele, who has become Acting Foresting Supervisor of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest.

Public Affairs Officer Tod McKay said Anderson has been district ranger on the Tongass National Forest for six years and has also been Deputy Forest Supervisor on that forest. He has worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming and Colorado and with the Idaho Fish and Game. He has degrees from the University of Iowa and Colorado University in Denver. An avid sled dog racer, he participated and was a finisher in the Iditarod sled dog race in 2007. He and his wife Blaire have two children.
