The fly fishing craze has been growing each and every year. You cannot drive along a river or stream in Montana and NOT see someone flicking a piece of feather, tied onto a hook, out into the water. Not to mention that fly fishing has played a huge roll in our tourism in Montana. In the summer, rafts and boats lmost outnumber bikes in Missoula. Just last week, while swimming in the Bitterroot River, I talked to 4 guys from Florida, 2 from Minnesota and 1 guy from Germany. Even celebrities like Jimmy Kimmel and Les Claypool spend much of their free time fishing on the Bitteroot, Blackfoot or Clark Fork rivers.

We are all aware of the film that put Missoula on the Hollywood A-List. In the early 90's an up and coming actor by the name of Brad Pitt took a role as a Montana boy who loves to fish. The movie "A River Runs Through It" launched a fly fishing craze all over the world. We learned many things from the movie. Like "The world is full of bastards, the number increasing rapidly the further one gets from Missoula, Montana." The most effective trout fly ever, is the "bunion bug." Or how to properly store your cigarettes, by simply putting them under your hat. But, there are a few flaws in the story. Our buddy Hank Patterson points them out in the following video.
