See How Lake Missoula Formed the Columbia River Gorge

Did you know that Lake Missoula was responsible for what we now know as the Columbia River Gorge, home of the Gorge Amphitheater? Have you ever seen what Mount Sentinel looked like as the beach of Lake Missoula?

My family was fascinated by a recent NOVA program on PBS called “Killer Floods.” Between this and the Foo Fighters Acropolis special, we watched PBS TWICE this weekend, who ARE we!?

For real though, I couldn’t take my eyes off of this documentary which recounts how Lake Missoula slowly broke through a dam of ice, near what is now Thompson Falls, rushing into Washington State, creating the Columbia River Gorge. Here are the two main parts about Missoula and Montana in the program, watch the entire program here.
