Primus are one of the world's most delightfully weird bands. Fans can always expect the unexpected when it comes to experimental rock act and those in attendance at the band's Colorado performance at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Wednesday night (May 17) were treated to the surprising live debut (according to Setlist.fm) of the new song "Seven."

This track marks the first new piece of original material from Primus since they released Green Naugahyde in 2011. The song clocks in at a brief but memorable two minutes and 45 seconds, dominated by a gyrating bass line from the legendary Les Claypool. "Seven" flows with fluid moments, ebbing with rigid, muted chords, invoking a bit of a circus feel among the otherwise wandering psychedelia.

While it's been quite a spell since Primus last released original music, they have remained active during this time. Their latest release, 2011's Primus & the Chocolate Factory With the Fungi Ensemble, presented a re-imagined version of the soundtrack from the classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory film.

Primus are currently wrapping their "An Evening With" tour breaking away from their tour for a festival performance on Sunday (May 21) at the Rock on the Range festival in Ohio. They'll spend most of June in Europe before returning stateside for a run with southern stoner rockers Clutch, billed as "An Evening With Primus and Clutch."
