A Missoula man is facing felony strangulation charges after an incident during the early morning hours on Sunday. Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh.

“Officers were called to the report of a disturbance near the intersection of Scott Street and Turner Street they arrived and made contact with a male and a female and at the conclusion of their investigation 25-year-old Ryan Taylor was arrested for Partner or Family Member Assault, Strangulation of a Family Member, as well as Destruction of or Tampering With a Communication Device.”

Welsh says the female involved in the incident is the mother of the suspect’s son. The tampering charge is related to accusations that Taylor tried to take the victim’s cell phone and broke it in the process.

Taylor was released from jail Monday afternoon after an initial court appearance, but is still facing that felony charge. PFMA cases in Missoula County that involve strangulation have been treated as felony cases for a while now, but this case is using the state’s new felony strangulation law passed during the last legislative session.
