If you've listened to Blink-182's "Josie," you're aware that Mark Hoppus has a fondness for the '80s comedy Vacation. But with a new song, he's taken that love to the next level, penning what he calls an "anti-tribute" to Dinky, the ill-fated canine from the movie. The track, titled "Not Every Dog Goes to Heaven," has been slotted in for Dog Songs, a new benefit album designed to aid the ASPCA.

For fans of Hoppus' work in Blink, it should be right in your wheelhouse. It has Hoppus' darker brand of humor all over it, but keeps things light, bouncy and to the point musically while referencing Dinky-related scenes from throughout the film. "Not every dog goes to heaven / Dinky you're such a f--king drag / Sometimes you just have it coming / '80s Chevy Chase was rad," sings Hoppus in the chorus.

“I became friends with Allie Goertz on twitter a while ago and she reached out about writing a song dedicated to a dog from a movie or TV show, to benefit the ASPCA via a compilation album," states Hoppus of his involvement. "As a dog lover, I was honored to be asked. I wanted to write an anti-tribute to Dinky, the total bummer of a dog from Vacation, one of my favorite films of all time. Last week I went into the studio with John Feldmann and we bashed out the guitars, bass and vocals in a morning. Travis came in that afternoon and absolutely destroyed the drums. It was all finished in a matter of 3-4 hours. In a matter of days it went from an idea in the back of my head to a song on an album out in the world. It's a fun, energetic track that I'm proud to have included on the album, and it's for a great cause.”

The song and album are available to purchase via Bandcamp. As stated, Dog Songs is a benefit disc with the monies raised going to the ASPCA's current campaign to help dogs who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Hoppus has been actively attempting to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey, recently launching a campaign involving clothing contributions and his Hi My Name Is Mark clothing line. Read more about that by clicking the red button below.
