Evacuations Ordered at Sunrise Fire South of Superior

Wind spread the Sunrise forest fire 11 miles south of Superior and caused the evacuation of homes at Sunrise and Quartz Flats areas. Residents of Quartz Creek and Verde Creek are still under advisory that they may need to evacuate, also. The fire has grown to over 2,700 acres and a Red Cross shelter for evacuees has been set up at Superior High School.

The Lolo Peak Fire was pushed Wednesday to 1,604 acres, a gain of 600 acres. It is burning in the northeast corner of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. A public information meeting is scheduled Thursday July 27 at 7 p.m. at the Florence-Carlton Community Church. By the way, that meeting will be online at Facebook Live.

Southwest of Philipsburg, the Whetstone Fire is 1,918 acres and the Meyers fire has burned 1,022 acres, as of Wednesday evening.

The Bitterroot National Forest reported earlier that the Dominic Butte Fire is at 55 acres, the Tin Cup fire is at 5 acres, the White Cap fire is also 5 acres and the Vance Mountain fire is 15 acres.

With clouds today and some wind, the air quality in Hamilton is "Moderate."

And, as we have reported earlier, Ravalli County is under Stage II fire restrictions, banning campfires. The Stage II restrictions are also in Granite, Missoula, Lake, Mineral and Sanders Counties.
