When I lived in New York, I was pretty into the underground comedy scene. I loved seeing unknown comedians, and that's often a mixed bag - some of them are terrific but haven't hit the big time, others are still working out their voice.

Thrillist just published an article called "The Best Undiscovered Comedian From Every State," and it's a great tool to find some of the best voices in comedy you may not have heard of yet. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see which comedian represented Montana, and guess what - it was someone from right here in Missoula!

Sarah Aswell, a local mother of two, has had her writing appear in The New Yorker, McSweeney's, National Lampoon and more. She's also written a YA biography about Kendrick Lamar and runs a workshop in town where she teaches local women and non-binary people how to break into stand-up.

That's really cool, and I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for the next time she's performing around town. Have you seen Sarah perform?
