Just before noon on Monday, June 12, Missoula Police received a call about an injured man in the 900 block of South 6th Street W. According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, officers responded to the scene and found a 36-year-old man who appeared to be a victim of an assault.

“Further investigation revealed that he had actually come to the area to engage in a transaction with another male and rather than fulfill the transaction, the other male assaulted the victim and took his money,” said Welsh. “The victim was actually going to purchase marijuana from the suspect.”

Welsh says while EMS was tending to the victim, officers found the suspect a short distance away and identified him as 19-year-old Kyle Johnson.

“He was taken into custody,” Welsh said. “He is being held in association with the reported robbery, which is what the officers who spoke to the victim determined had occurred. He is also being held for carrying a concealed weapon. He had a pair of brass knuckles in his pocket.”

Welsh says an investigation is still ongoing to determine if the brass knuckles were used at all during the robbery.
